Teens apply to the AZYouthforce program and once selected, each participant will engage in a 4-week long Academy to gain hard and soft skills to help them be successful in their internships.Following the successful completion of AZYouthforce Academy, students will apply for and be matched to a paid internship with one of our partners. Participants will work closely with our Workforce Development coach to ensure their success.
Who can participate
AZYouthforce is open to all young people ages 16–19, who are enrolled in school. The program is open to BGCMP members and non-members. Applicants from underserved communities and/or those who will be the first in their family to graduate. One of the strategic goals of the AZYouthforce program is to create meaningful education and workplace opportunities for those who otherwise would not have access.
Last year, 10 teens were selected and trained for a Bank of America internship. Each teen completed the Academy program before applying for their paid internship. Working with Bank of America, BGCMP created a mentoring program within the internship to help teens learn the ropes in the bank. AZYouthforce interns assisted customers with bank ATMs and phone apps, and served as the first interaction with customers. A BGCMP workforce leader supported the teens through their internship and helped them navigate the challenges and opportunities in a first professional job.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix is partnering with the Talking Stick Resort Arena to build a paid internship program for AZYouthforce this spring. Following their completion in the Academy, the teens will staff games supporting arena operations to enhance guest experiences at the Arena during Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers games. Arena leadership will support the teens in their business operations and the BGCMP workforce team will work with teens to manage the enterprise. BGCMP will recruit 12-15 teens for this paid internship opportunity.
